3 Traditions that exist on Pengrupukan, Day: 1 day before Silent Day.

Pengrupukan is a ceremony carried out to neutralize the Bhuta Kala that conducted in the afternoon (sandhyakala). After the mecaru ceremony was held at their respective homes. Starting with rice tawur, torching the house, spraying houses and yards with gunpowder, and hitting any objects until it made a noise. Furthermore, it was enlivened by the ogoh-ogoh parade which was the embodiment of Bhuta Kala which was paraded around the village. The following are the activities or traditions carried out when screwing:

Ogoh-ogoh shaped like a big doll or statue with a scary form that is identical to the evil forces of Bhuta Kala, this evil power is not only visible from the physical sinister, but also the nature of the evil.

During its development, the forms of ogoh- ogoh were made in various forms, some even deliberately made funny like corruptors, giants, or evil characters in puppets that have bad traits, later after the silent day ceremony the bad traits in humans can be reduced.

 

  2. Ngoncang traditions

This tradition of ngoncang or hitting mortar is always done by residents in Banjar Adat Pakraman Paketan, Paket Agung Village. Ngoncang activities are always held every year before the pengrupukan day when entering sandhyakala time. Local people believe that Ngoncang increases the positive aura and neutralizing the negative aura that exists in residential areas because the ritual of ngoncang has been done for centuries.

The mortar that is used as a means of ngoncang age is hundreds of years old and it’s used from generation to generation. But in recent years, ngoncang has been slightly modified by local residents. Now, ngoncang is not only done by every family head who has a wooden mortar. The area was enlarged to the level of traditional banjars.

 

  3. Siat Sambuk traditions

In Banjar Pohgending, Pitra Village, Penebel District, Tabanan there is a tradition called Siat Sambuk. Siat Sambuk (Coconut Fiber War), usually held the day before Silent Day, which is precisely on the day of pengrupukan before the sun sets (sandhyakala). Described since 1995, the Siat Sambuk ritual adopted a modern war strategy. In this Siat Sambuk Tradition, there are 'Attack' troops whose specific task is to throw coconut fiber to opponents and there are also 'Logistics' troops whose job is to carry blazing whips to be used as weapons by the 'Attack' troops.

Siat Sambuk troops are usually divided into 2 teams, named Wong Kaja (northern group) and Wong Kelod (southern group). Both of these groups have prepared ammunition in the form of a whip heap filled with flames. Each team will throw each other whip which had been burned, accompanied by the Bale Ganjur gamelan that increasing spirit to the participant. Interestingly, no one has ever been injured or burned in the ritual.

In addition to continuing the tradition of the ancestors, Siat Sambuk is also believed to be a repellent and neutralizes negative things in the village environment. After the tradition of the siat sambuk was completed, all the troops gathered at the village T-junction and together with the nunas tirta, then shook hands with each other, embracing each other, as if no war had just started.
